Born in Germany in 1577, Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish painter considered to be one of the greatest artists of baroque painting. Rubens often painted full-figured women, so often that “Rubens” became synonymous with the plump and curvy aesthetic of the late Renaissance. His paintings were considered a celebration of the voluptuous body types he painted.
